My family has a lot of holidays traditions tied up in food. Fresh cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, turnip greens and black-eyed peas on New Year's Day (we're southern), etc.
Thanksgiving's is pumpkin bread. On a day when my mom and I typically rise with the sun and cook nonstop until 3 p. m. when the meal is served, it's nice to have quick hearty snack that you can grab and scarf in between projects.
Nothing does that better than a thick slice of pumpkin bread slathered in butter and microwaved for precisely 15 seconds (just long enough for the butter to go melty).
It's been a family tradition as long as I can remember and one that I can only imagine will carry on far into the future, at least as long as I myself am able to bake.
We rock a serious dessert table for our yearly Thanksgiving gatherings in my family. Pumpkin pie, Apricot Nectar cake, Apple Crumb pie and even an Oreo cheesecake; everyone has a favorite and my mom and I generally go out of our way to make sure that they all get to enjoy them for at least that one day of the year.
So of course the first year my friend Caleb (my bestie with Celiac's) decide to join us for Thanksgiving, I made sure to ask him what his preferred dessert for the holiday was. "Peach cobbler," he answered with no hesitation and it has been a part of our familial smorgasbord ever since!
That first year's cobbler may have left a lot to be desired (the crust didn't really rise like it was supposed to) but with a lot of experimenting and practice, I can finally say I've found a recipe that works exactly as it was intended too and is mighty tasty as well if I do say so myself!
New Year's Eve is all about finger foods in our household. Much like the ever popular Super Bowl Sunday, we have nearly every snack imaginable: dessert included.
When it comes to a holiday centered so strongly around alcohol though, it seems silly to go through all the trouble to make full blown cheesecake for a bunch of tipsy folks to enjoy when they probably won't even remember what they ate the night before and that is where the Oreo Truffle Balls come in to play.
Cute, tasty and extraordinarily simple to make, they were and still are one of my favorite little snacks to make for New Year's Eve.
